Since I started eating green smoothies every day as my primary source of food, I've been able to experiment with combinations of greens and fruits together for a smooth balanced flavor that excites your taste buds.

It was difficult for me at first to find that great combination that tasted good, but I've gotten a little better and really enjoy my green smoothies now.   In the beginning I was adding more fruit for sweetness and to also mask the taste of greens – some greens can be overpowering – but now I tend to add about 3 cups of greens instead of 2 cups.  My taste buds have changed and I'm enjoying the flavors of greens more and more.  The more greens you can blend in, the better you'll feel.

I've gathered my top 5 green smoothie recipes that I've prepared.  Feel free to change the recipes up a bit to your taste buds.  I typically will blend everything together except for the ice – taste the green smoothie, then decide if it needs anything else.  When you've blended your green smoothie according to your taste buds, then throw in the ice and blend to finish.

In addition to the ingredients listed for each green smoothie recipe I will blend in other foods.  For instance, if I know I might only have a small salad or just snack on vegetables or fruit throughout the day – I would want to add a little bit more fat into my smoothie.  Adding ground flax seeds or avocado always makes for a great smoothie and to also ingest more Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids.  Are you thinking avocado sounds weird in a green smoothie?  Trust me, it's amazing!  It will make your green smoothie more creamy too – which, by the way, it was bananas will do as well.

Generally I don't add in too many spices except maybe some cinnamon every once in awhile, but again, blend into your green smoothie what you think tastes good.  If you're like me and your green smoothie is your main meal, you want to make sure it tastes good and is something you'll love for a long time.
