I can't believe it's day 5 already of eating only raw food vegan food. Okay, so maybe 5 days doesn't seem like that long, but the idea of going raw for 5 days can seem extreme by anybodys standards who are used to eating cooked food their whole life. 

I'm celebrating my 5th day of eating raw as a wonderful adventure towards better health, permanent weight loss, and learning to prepare food in a whole different way. It's still been somewhat easy. I think mainly because of the green smoothies that I drink as the main meals through out the day and then a bit of other raw munchies when I'm hungry.

Oh yes, what do I eat on a daily basis? This was a question I searched the Internet for when I began researching raw food eating, especially drinking green smoothies. I was also concerned about whether I was eating enough, because I am getting full rather quickly from raw foods and green smoothies and I know it's less calories than I would typically eat; even on a diet sometimes.

A typical day so far:

Green Smoothies – about 64 ounces which I drink throughout the day as meals.

Fresh avocado, vegetables, salad, or fruit as snacks when I'm hungry.  I try to eat more vegetables instead of the fruit since I have so much fruit in my smoothies.

I noticed the first couple of days the green smoothies did not fill me up and I had to snack a little bit more throughout the day, but now, I'm getting fuller and having a hard time getting that last smoothie in.  I divide my 64 ounces of green smoothie into 4 insulated metal water bottles that keep the smoothie fresh and cold all day.  I think I may reduce the amount of smoothies though each day; or maybe I should try to eat the whole thing.  Oh good grief, I don't know.  If I'm not hungry why push it right?  I have found that I'm craving salty foods though.  Maybe that's because the green smoothies are sweeter.  I did find an amazing recipe; well two actually that have just been delightful, filling and unbelievably tasty!!!!

The first recipe is for No Bean Sun Dried Tomato Hummus which is in the picture, but I forgot to take a picture and found one that looks almost like mine; minus the pita bread though.  I found the original recipe for No Beans Hummus in Matt Amsden's raw food cookbook, RAWvolution, and added a few things to spice it up a bit.  The second recipe is one that I actually created after craving chocolate the other night.  I think I will call this smoothie a Raw Chocolate Almond Green Smoothie.  It is so amazing!!!!!!  If you try it, please tell me your thoughts or anything you changed about it.

How am I feeling on this raw diet now that it's been 5 days?

I went through some detox a bit, probably from the green smoothies, but hopefully that will end soon. I have slept through the night almost every single night, which is unheard of for me.  I haven't craved any cooked foods yet and I hope I don't, but everything is so new still and don't completely trust that those cravings are gone yet, especially since I haven't been around any cooked foods.  I might crave them once I see them or smell them, but so far I'm doing okay.  It's not that I think cooked foods are horrible, just I'm trying to stay true to the challenge and see where this adventure leads me.  It's kind of like a 90 day raw food fast from cooked foods.  I might eat cooked foods in the future, but for now, it's all about eating raw, trying to get more healthy, lose weight, and free myself from food addictions.

So far I've lost 5.5 lbs this week and feel very satisified with my eating.  I haven't done much exercising yet except for the occasional walk and soaking up the sun when it decides to peak out.  I think next week I might try to incorporate more exercise like hiking, riding my bike, or spin class at the gym.
