Supermodel and actress, Carol Alt, has committed to a raw food diet since she was 34 years old. Now at 49 years of age, Carol Alt still looks vibrantly young – and not like a woman pushing into her 50's.
That's what a raw diet can do for you. It keeps you young, full of energy, and your mind sharp. According to a PR.com interview with Alt, she changed her lifestyle of eating the traditional SAD (Standard American Diet) at 34 due to a lack of energy, nutrition, and poor eating habits from all the years in modeling. After visiting a holistic doctor and learning about the nutritional benefits of raw organic eating, Alt discovered her passion for raw food and teaching others how to prepare raw food.
Interestingly, Alt is not a raw vegan. She still eats animal products, but in a raw state. For instance a lightly seared steak, raw eggs, raw cheese, or tartar. Typically you hear that raw foodists are completely vegan, which is to eliminate all animal products from their diet and stick to a purely vegetable based diet with fruits and nuts. Personally, I don't recommend eating certain animal products in the raw unless you know that it's organic, unpasteurized, and no growth hormones. Your chances of getting food poisoning are slimmer from foreign bacterias which would typically be released had the meat been cooked.
Alt wrote two books on the raw food diet lifestyle, Eating in the Raw: A Beginner's Guide to Getting Slimmer, Feeling Healthier, and Looking Younger the Raw Food Way, and The Raw 50: 10 Amazing Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners, Snacks, and Drinks for Your Raw Food Lifestyle. In her books she shows you how to eat raw food and still eat meat, what the raw food lifestyle is like, how to prepare food, and of course her amazing raw food recipes.
